Problem: When you buy your motor-home or caravan you get it home and want to plug it in and see how things work. You get the extension lead that came with your RV and go to plug it in at home, and then you notice that the lead, is a 15 amp lead. The house you want to plug into is only 10 amp. What do you do?
Now some will say just grind down the earth lead and then it will fit in the socket. ** This Is Illegal** you can not and must not tamper with the 15 amp plug converting it in any way to fit the 10 amp house socket. ** It is Illegal** to cut the 15 amp plug off and replace with a 10 amp plug. ** It is Illegal** for you to do it, or an electrician to do it. In fact a electrician just would not do it, and it would not be worth their license or the prosecution if some one dies, or a house burns down. If you do you are at risk of overloading the power point and hence start a fire. A modified lead in any way will also void Home Insurance and RV insurance.
Process: The fix is simple, and does not require you to risk your life, or the lives of those you love. The fix is to get a adapter that can safely and legally convert 15 amp to 10 amp. The item to use is a Ampfibain or simular to do this for you. Yes it will cost a couple dollars. I paid about $150.00 dollars. They have a water proof compartment to connect your lead, and they have a RCD built in as well. There are a couple different products out there, and some are not really appropriate for the RV. I will put an example of one below, they are about half the price of the Ampfibian, but are not IP rated. If you are not sure about IP ratings, have a Google search and make sure the item you buy meets the correct standards, that is water proof, and has a RCD switch. They are simple to use, you plug your lead into it, close it properly and then just plug into your house socket. The rest they is history. Peace of mind and safe. I purchased mine direct, but you can buy them at Bunnings and the likes. All good RV suppliers should have them as well.
The two above (Pod and Ampfibian) are safe to use, so do you and your family a favour and get one, and use it. Keep yourself and your loved ones safe. Happy Safe Coddiwompling.
