Problem: In the motor-home one problem that will soon rear it's ugly head and drive you nuts is the drawer fronts. In particular the cutlery drawer. These drawers seem to be very flimsy, and with constant pulling they tend to come loose from their fixings. Because the drawers have the mechanism that keeps them locked whilst driving, they require quite a good pull on the drawer to get them to open. This causes stress and before you know it, you will have loose or broken drawer fronts. If left unfixed for a period of time, they will then be beyond repair and you will be up for a major expense. If you look at the photo below you will notice the crack in the drawer front support. The timber cracked and caused the front to come loose and have a wobble. Left unattended, is looking for trouble.
Process: So the fix is quite simple, and if implemented before they are damaged, it will save you any grief. I caught mine just in time, and the fix was easy. Trot down to your nearest Bunnings store and pick up some L brackets. All you have to do, is screw them in place. How simple is that? Use screws That will go through the bracket and the two layers of timber. Now be very careful to pick screws that will NOT go through all layers and poke out through your nice drawer front. If you fail to select the right screw, you will be a very unhappy camper.
Take a look at the pic below, you will see the crack that was starting to open in the ply wood there at the top left of the pic. Then just under that you will also note the placement of the L bracket. Problem solved, and drawer front saved.
